Reality Television
Most “reality” TV shows could not achieve the short timeframes “to air” without a shared storage solution.
Using multiple lower-cost digitizing suites can mean the simple tasks
can be handled by lower cost equipment operated by editing assistants,
leaving the craft editors free to concentrate on the “story telling”
aspects of the job.
With all workstations collaborating on the one program at the same
time, a very large amount of content can be created in a very short
time.
Ingest Suite(s):
- Assistant editor(s) digitise all or selected rushes to EditShare.
- Selected live material can also be directly digitized from cameras or studio.
Edit Suites:
- The “daily show” is created from the wild footage stored on EditShare.
- “Voting off” shows or special programs can be simultaneously edited in other suites.
- Other edit suites may be used to cut “promos” or packages for other uses.
- Finally, an edit suite may be used for checking content for legal purposes, censorship, or for doing simple audio sweetening.
Playout:
- The show is finally played out to tape, via a link, or played directly to air from EditShare.
- Any footage unlikely to be required can be efficiently deleted while
editors are still working, creating space for the next day.
-
Material required for future use (compilations, montages, promos, etc)
can be kept online if space is sufficient, or sent to an archive server
or device.
