EFS 200

EditShare EFS 200 is a media engineered scale-out shared storage platform that's built on the award-winning EFS distributed parallel file system designed for media-intensive and creative collaboration environments. EFS 200 provides all the speed and security benefits of the EditShare File System, in a size that meets the capacity and budget requirements of collaboration teams and smaller media shops.

Thanks to its simple building block approach, With the single-node EFS systems we’ve made expansion very straightforward – simply add one or more new storage nodes and bandwidth increases with storage capacity. The approach allows facilities to get moving with a high-performance configuration that is best suited for the stage of their production and, more importantly, their budget. Plus with the included ‘All-in-One’ upgrade, the EFS 200 provides a complete media production platform with integrated asset management, archiving and smart workflow tools providing an easy ramp to cloud and remote production.

Creative collaboration at heart

EditShare’s ethos has been built on the importance of collaboration in the creative workflow. Our solutions are built with openness in mind. We aim to provide facilities with a rock-solid foundation on which to build, while providing the flexibility to work with every NLE, every sound mixing or VFX program along with every operating system. EditShare promises unmatched project and media sharing capabilities for all your leading creative solutions, whether editing, compositing, finishing or grading. EFS 200 provides extensive project support to all leading creative, grading and finishing tool-sets.

The EFS 200 is an open platform design that integrates with industry-leading creative tools from Adobe®, Apple®, Avid®, Autodesk®, Blackmagic Design® and more. Clients are free to mix and match creative programs all whilst enjoying project sharing and bin locking capabilities is a multi collaboration environment. With deadlines becoming tighter, Flow asset management provides another layer of intelligence enabling clients to search and retrieve content easier and faster than ever before. Flow® provides the digital glue and gateway to other workflow components such as automated QC, automated transcoding and file based delivery. Flow® can orchestrate and tailor any workflow needs such as the hotly requested remote production requirement whilst also providing a ramp to the cloud with integration with leading cloud platforms such as AWS S3®, Glacier®, Microsoft Azure®, Google GCP®, Wasabi® and Backblaze®.

The EFS 200 configuration offers an exceptional value proposition offering storage, asset management and archive in an economical 2U form factor. Equipped with 12 drives a single EFS 200 server will provide 20, 40, 60, 80 or 100 TB of usable capacity after native RAID 6 protection. Mirrored SSD OS drives provide redundant support for the EFS file system whilst redundant power supplies and fans are standard.

EFS 200

EFS performance

The EFS 200 is powered at its core with the unique and multi-award-winning EditShare File System (EFS). Benefits include a single namespace file system and EFS Native Client connection protocol, allowing workstations to connect via our lightening-fast, multi-threaded driver. Clients can expect to achieve a 20% performance boost compared to legacy IT transactional Protocols such as SMB and AFP. When expanded into a multi-node configuration, associated workstations employ a direct path to each storage node avoiding "hot spots", increasing fault tolerance and ensuring no dropped frames during playback with our intelligent SwiftRead contention management.

EFS File Auditing: Shaping the future of M&E security

Storing and managing media are key pieces in the puzzle, but what about security? Safeguarding the integrity of your storage environment shouldn’t be an afterthought. The media and entertainment industry is dealing with high stakes, with enormous budgets committed to generating content. Vendors who are diligent about data protection understand the importance of making security a top priority. With thousands of jobs on the line, vigilance is required at every step. Produce needs to be accounted for throughout production and delivered intact to the customer or cinema or OTT provider, ensuring that nothing is damaged or stolen on route.

The EditShare research and development team is light years ahead of the industry with the introduction of EFS Auditing, the industry’s only real-time auditing platform designed to manage, monitor and secure your media from inception through to the delivery stage. EFS Auditing keeps track of all digital assets and captures every digital footstep that a file makes throughout its life-cycle, including copying, modifying and deleting of any content within a project. IABM, the International Association for Broadcast & Media Technology Suppliers, recognised EFS Auditing as a game-changer in storage content security, awarding it the coveted ‘Best Storage’ product of 2018 at the IABM BaM Awards in September 2018 and also a Product Innovation Award at NAB 2019.

Easy ‘Scale out’ expansion

Expanding capacity and performance with an EFS 200 system is easy. Simply connect one or more EFS 200 storage nodes via a network switch. The EFS file system automatically rebalances existing data and implements the specified media protection mechanism(s) in the background while the EFS 200 continues to support production. The expanded system still maintains a single namespace, so no need to juggle multiple RAID partitions and decide where to put Media Spaces.
