EditShare EFS 300 is a media engineered scale-out shared storage platform that's built on the award-winning EFS distributed parallel file system designed for media-intensive and creative collaboration environments. EditShare EFS 300 delivers the benefits of EditShare File System-based storage in configurations that meet the performance and capacity requirements of the largest post-production environments.
Starting with a single server the EFS 300 can be expanded to a 960TB resilient Enterprise cluster, providing a powerful, scale-out solution that will never require a forklift upgrade. Plus with the included ‘All-in-One’ upgrade, the EFS 300 provides a complete media production platform with integrated Flow asset management and smart workflow tools
EFS 300 is provisioned with a super powerful configuration that delivers outstanding storage, asset management and archive performance in a 3U form factor. Its 16 drives can provide 28, 56, 84, 112 or 140 TB of usable capacity after native RAID 6 protection. Mirrored SSD OS drives provide redundant support for the EFS file system and redundant power supplies and fans are standard.
No matter the configuration, the EFS 300 always presents a single namespace to manage, eliminating administrative tasks like balancing user workloads between volumes or workspaces as well as building multiple sets of user accounts and/or permission sets. The EFS Native Client multi-threaded driver with low overhead and latency provides Windows, OS X and LINUX workstations with exceptional performance.
In multi-node EFS 300 clusters, the EFS Native Client provides further performance benefits by enabling parallel transactions between workstations and storage nodes to avoid the typical “hot spots” associated with NAS clusters. Also, depending on the number of nodes present, an EFS 300 can support XOR and COPY protection schemes that can tolerate the loss of one or more storage nodes. Finally, EditShare ‘SwiftRead’ permits client workstations to seek parity or copy data from elsewhere in the cluster when a storage node is congested or down.
Expanding an EFS 300 system requires no downtime or complex administration. Simply connect one or more 16-drive EFS 300 expansion nodes (via a network switch) and use the built-in EditShare ERA tool to configure the system. The EFS file system automatically rebalances existing data and implements the specified media protection mechanism(s) in the background while the EFS 300 continues to support production.
Up to two expansion nodes can be connected to an EFS 300 master ‘All-in-One’ node, after that, an EFS Metadata Server (or two for HA) is required. Once an EFS Metadata server is added, a dedicated Flow Database and Ark Disk or Tape server must also be included. With an EFS Metadata server present, an EFS 300 can be expanded without limit.

EFS File Auditing: Shaping the future of M&E security
Storing and managing media are key pieces in the puzzle, but what about security? Safeguarding the integrity of your storage environment shouldn’t be an afterthought. The media and entertainment industry is dealing with high stakes, with enormous budgets committed to generating content. Vendors who are diligent about data protection understand the importance of making security a top priority. With thousands of jobs on the line, vigilance is required at every step. Produce needs to be accounted for throughout production and delivered intact to the customer or cinema or OTT provider, ensuring that nothing is damaged or stolen on route.
The EditShare research and development team is light years ahead of the industry with the introduction of EFS Auditing, the industry’s only real-time auditing platform designed to manage, monitor and secure your media from inception through to the delivery stage. EFS Auditing keeps track of all digital assets and captures every digital footstep that a file makes throughout its life-cycle, including copying, modifying and deleting of any content within a project. IABM, the International Association for Broadcast & Media Technology Suppliers, recognised EFS Auditing as a game-changer in storage content security, awarding it the coveted ‘Best Storage’ product of 2018 at the IABM BaM Awards in September 2018 and also a Product Innovation Award at this year’s NAB 2019.
